Altamira 23 Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Altamira 23, you immediately get the sense that this three-star hotel punches above its weight. The building sits right on Calle Altamira, and there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole setup — it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. The entrance has that clean, modern Spanish aesthetic without being sterile, and honestly, the location hit me right away. You’re essentially positioned perfectly between Málaga’s historic center and the coastal areas, which is exactly where you want to be.

Location & Neighborhood

Here’s what I love about staying on Carretera de Cádiz — you’re close enough to walk into the old town when you want that authentic Málaga experience, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the constant tourist crowds right outside your door. The area feels more like where locals actually live and work, which I always prefer. Getting to the Picasso Museum or the cathedral is a pleasant 15-minute stroll, and if you’re planning day trips along the Costa del Sol, the location makes perfect sense. I mean, couples clearly get it — they’ve rated the location 9.0, and after spending time here, I totally understand why.

The Rooms

The rooms at Altamira 23 are what I’d call thoughtfully simple. Nothing flashy, but everything you actually need is there and works properly — which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given. The beds are comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern without trying too hard to be trendy. What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night, despite being on a fairly busy street. The soundproofing is surprisingly good, and you’ll actually get a decent night’s sleep here.

Daily Experience

The staff here genuinely seem to care about making your stay work, without being overly formal about it. They know the neighborhood well and can point you toward the good local spots that aren’t necessarily in every guidebook. Breakfast is solid — not elaborate, but fresh and filling enough to get your day started properly. The common areas are clean and comfortable, though this isn’t the kind of place where you’ll spend hours lounging in the lobby. It’s more about having a reliable, pleasant base while you explore Málaga and the surrounding area.

Why Guests Love It

With an 8.8 rating, this hotel clearly gets the fundamentals right. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t surprise you with hidden fees or disappointing amenities — what you expect is what you get, just done well. The location really is the star here, giving you easy access to both the cultural attractions of Málaga and the beaches of the Costa del Sol. For couples especially, it hits that sweet spot of being romantic enough without being overly touristy, and practical enough that you can actually use it as a proper base for exploring southern Spain. You know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
