Holidays2Malaga Azucena Old Town Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Holidays2Malaga Azucena Old Town on the narrow Calle Azucena, you immediately get that authentic Spanish vibe — this isn’t some generic chain hotel trying to look local. The building fits right into the historic neighborhood, and honestly, that’s exactly what you want when you’re staying in Málaga’s old quarter. It’s a three-star property, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s basic — the location alone makes it feel like you’re getting way more than you paid for.
The Heart of Old Town
You know what really struck me about this place? You’re literally in the center of everything that matters in Málaga Centro. I mean, you can walk to the Cathedral in about five minutes, and the Picasso Museum is practically around the corner. The narrow streets here are part of the original old town layout — some of these cobblestones have been here for centuries. What I love is that you’re staying where locals actually live and work, not in some touristy bubble. The restaurant scene around here is incredible too, with tiny tapas bars tucked into buildings that are older than most countries.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and well-maintained, with that European efficiency you either love or need to adjust to (I’m in the love camp). The windows open onto the street, and yes, you’ll hear some noise — but it’s the good kind of noise, like people chatting as they walk to dinner or the occasional motorbike. The air conditioning works well, which is crucial during Málaga’s hot summers. Storage space is adequate, though you’ll want to pack light like you should for any European city trip.
Getting Around and Practical Stuff
Here’s something most hotels won’t tell you — parking in this area is basically impossible, but that’s actually perfect because you don’t need a car anyway. The train station is walkable when you arrive, and once you’re here, everything is on foot. I actually appreciated not having to worry about driving through these narrow streets. The port area where you can catch ferries to North Africa is about a fifteen-minute walk, and the beach is maybe twenty minutes if you want to escape the city heat for a bit.
Why Guests Love It
The 8.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve been here — it’s that sweet spot where location trumps everything else, and the basics are done right. Couples seem to really get it (and the feedback backs this up) because there’s something romantic about staying in the actual heart of a historic Spanish city rather than in some modern district. You’re not just visiting Málaga, you’re living in it for a few days. The staff knows the neighborhood well and can point you toward the less obvious gems — like which bakery has the best pastries for breakfast or where to get groceries if you need them. It’s not fancy, but it’s real, and sometimes that’s exactly what makes a trip memorable.

The location was very central for walking about the city and to the beach. Lots of great restaurants and history close by. Staff, in particular Michael, was helpful in answering any questions by phone, as no one is actually on site.
