City Center José Andrés Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to City Center José Andrés, you immediately get that feeling you’re in the thick of things — and I mean that in the best way possible. This three-star hotel sits right on Calle Alta in Málaga’s historic center, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building itself has that classic Andalusian charm without being too precious about it, you know? It’s the kind of place that feels authentically local rather than trying too hard to impress tourists.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally in the heart of everything that matters in Málaga. The cathedral is practically around the corner, and you can walk to the Picasso Museum in about five minutes. What really struck me though is how the hotel manages to be central without feeling like you’re stuck in a tourist trap. Calle Alta has this nice residential feel mixed with local bars and shops that actually serve the neighborhood. Couples seem to absolutely love it here (they rate the location 9.7, which honestly doesn’t surprise me), and I can see why — there’s something romantic about being able to wander these narrow streets and stumble upon hidden plazas.
The Rooms
The accommodations are what you’d expect from a solid three-star property — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed without any unnecessary frills. My room had that crisp, modern feel while still nodding to traditional Spanish elements. The beds are actually quite comfortable, and the bathrooms are well-appointed with good water pressure (always a relief when you’re traveling). What I appreciated most was the attention to practical details — decent lighting for reading, enough outlets for your devices, and windows that actually open to let in that warm Málaga air.
Getting Around
One thing that really sets this place apart is how walkable everything becomes when you stay here. The main shopping street, Calle Larios, is just a few blocks away, and the port area with all its restaurants is an easy stroll. I found myself barely using public transport because honestly, everything worth seeing in the old town is within walking distance. The train station isn’t far either, which makes day trips to places like Ronda or Sevilla totally doable. It’s one of those locations where you feel like a temporary local rather than just another tourist passing through.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to City Center José Andrés is that perfect balance of location, comfort, and value. You’re getting that prime real estate in Málaga’s centro histórico without paying five-star prices, and the staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work. The property earned an 8.7 location score for good reason — it’s rare to find a hotel that puts you this close to everything while still feeling like a peaceful retreat at the end of the day. For travelers who want to experience authentic Málaga rather than just check off tourist sites, this place really delivers.
Locals suggest to book apartments in Malaga around Pedregalejo for chiringuito grills, paddleboard rentals, and calm coves.

This is an attractive and clean apartment in an excellent location. It is close to the historic centre without the noise of road traffic/passers by.
We stayed in the apartment for four weeks and it largely delivered everything we needed. The bedroom and living area are light and spacious. The view from the windows and balcony is fantastic.
The rental agency were excellent at communicating, and when there was a small maintenance issue, this was addressed quickly.Nicola from United Kingdom (8/10)
Close to bars and restaurants
High up with good viewsGeorgiana_oh from United Kingdom (8/10)
It's very close to everything, and unlike many properties I researched prior to choosing this one, it was very quiet. Very powerful A/C, modern kitchen. It's got everything you need for a few days, self check-in and check-out, and the views from the balcony are impressive. I would recommend this for singles/couples though, not a family as it's quite tiny and storage space is limited.

It was quite central, had everything we needed, views over the rooftops were lovely. The management were very responsive to a heater that wasn’t working in January.
