Historic Center Cathedral Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Historic Center Cathedral on Calle Strachan, you immediately understand why this three-star hotel has such devoted fans. The building itself feels authentically Málaga — not trying too hard to impress, but genuinely rooted in the neighborhood’s character. I mean, when you’re literally steps from the cathedral (hence the name), you know you’ve landed somewhere special. The entrance is understated in that confident Spanish way, where the location does all the talking.

Location & Neighborhood

Honestly, I’ve stayed in plenty of places that claim to be “centrally located,” but this is the real deal. You’re in Málaga Centro, which means everything worth seeing is within a five-minute walk — the cathedral obviously, but also the Alcazaba, Picasso Museum, and those winding streets full of tapas bars that locals actually frequent. What struck me most was how couples seem to gravitate here (they’ve rated the location 9.9 for romantic trips), and I get it. There’s something about being able to wander back from dinner without worrying about taxis or long walks that just makes everything more relaxed.

The Rooms

The accommodations are exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star property — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged without any unnecessary frills. My room had that perfect balance of modern amenities and Spanish character, with shuttered windows that actually kept the Andalusian sun at bay during afternoon siestas. You know what I appreciated most? The attention to soundproofing, because being in the heart of the old town could easily mean dealing with street noise, but the Historic Center Cathedral has clearly thought this through.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have a particular rhythm that I found myself falling into quickly. You’ll wake up to the sound of the city coming alive — not traffic, but actual people starting their day in a neighborhood that’s been doing this for centuries. The hotel staff seems to understand that guests want to get out and explore rather than linger in lobbies, so everything runs efficiently without feeling rushed. I actually ended up chatting with other travelers in the small common areas, which doesn’t happen everywhere.

Why Guests Love It

After spending time here, that 9.9 location score makes perfect sense. This isn’t just about being close to tourist sites — though you definitely are — it’s about feeling genuinely connected to Málaga’s daily life. You’ll find yourself popping back during the day to drop off shopping bags or rest between museum visits, then heading out again for evening tapas without any planning required. The Historic Center Cathedral works because it gets out of your way and lets the city be the star, which is exactly what you want when you’re exploring somewhere as vibrant as Málaga’s historic center.

To book hotel in Malaga for Semana Santa processions, travelers claim balcony suites overlooking incense and brass bands.

Reviews of Historic Center Cathedral

Is in the heart of istoric centre, next to the Cathedral,Calle Larios

  • Paule from United Kingdom (7/10)

Cannot beat the location! It is situated right next to Cathedral, literally 5-10min away from anything in Old Town. Also 15min walking distance from the beach. Apartment is on the 4th floor (with a lift!) of a beautiful building, and features full length windows opening to a gorgeous street! Many people complained it was noisy, but we did not find it an issue. Yes there are bunch of little restaurants downstairs, but they all closed around midnight. The streets are all cleaned and washed overnight yes, but how elese do people expect the busy old town to remain so pristine!

The apartment was much smaller than described or apeared in the pictures. It is probably better suitable for a single traveler or a couple. It was a bit outdated, yet very clean and cosy!

Great location – right next to the cathedral, all important places can be easily reached on foot. We were really very happy with it. Lots of great restaurants nearby – including brilliant tapas on the ground floor. The room was clean and well-kept, the kitchen equipment was sufficient. And I think it was the first time I had really comfortable pillows 🙂

  • Ulla from Finland (8/10)

The apartment is located just in the centre, just a few steps from the cathedral and Calle Larios. Still the street is quite quiet at night. The house has a lift which is really good because the apartment is on the 3rd floor. Apartment is small but has everything you need. There is a french balcony and it was nice to be able to open the doors and sit by the balcony. The bathroom is really small but clean, the shower was just fine.

La posizione strategia, parliamo del cuore pulsante di Malaga.
La disponibilità del proprietario che si è reso disponibile per ogni cosa.

  • Flaminia from Italy (7/10)
