Holiday Inn Express Málaga Airport, an IHG Hotel Overview
First Impressions
The Holiday Inn Express Málaga Airport, an IHG Hotel sits right where you need it — literally three minutes from the airport terminals, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re dealing with early flights or late arrivals. I mean, you can actually see planes taking off from some of the windows, but surprisingly, the soundproofing keeps things pretty quiet. The building itself is modern and clean, nothing fancy but definitely more polished than your typical airport hotel.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I really appreciated about the location — yes, it’s in Churriana rather than central Málaga, but that’s actually not a bad thing. You’re about 15 minutes by car to the city center, and the hotel provides free private parking which is honestly a godsend in this part of Spain. The MA-21 road connection means you can easily reach the beaches at Torremolinos or even venture into the mountains if you’ve got a rental car. Plus, there’s a decent supermarket within walking distance, which comes in handy.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a three-star Holiday Inn Express — clean, functional, and surprisingly comfortable. The bed was actually really good (I’m picky about mattresses), and the air conditioning worked perfectly, which you definitely need during Málaga summers. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, with a proper shower that had decent water pressure. What I liked most was the blackout curtains — they actually block out light completely, so you can sleep in even with all that Mediterranean sunshine.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast buffet here is honestly better than I expected for an airport hotel. They’ve got the usual continental spread, but also some local touches like proper Spanish ham and decent coffee — not the watery stuff you sometimes get at chain hotels. The restaurant area gets busy around 7 AM with business travelers, so I’d suggest going either earlier or after 8:30 if you prefer a quieter meal. They also keep it running until 10 AM, which gives you flexibility if you’re not an early riser.
Why Guests Love It
You know what really works about this place? It’s that sweet spot between convenience and comfort without breaking the bank. Couples seem to particularly enjoy it — probably because you can fly in, grab your rental car, and be exploring Andalusia within an hour of landing. The staff actually knows their stuff about the area too; they gave me solid recommendations for beaches that weren’t completely overrun with tourists. And honestly, after a long day of sightseeing in the heat, coming back to reliable air conditioning and a comfortable bed just hits different. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — just a solid, well-run airport hotel that makes your travel day smoother.
